I thought you'd like that :classic_biggrin:

I had an amazingly great red wine yesterday! Proper great stuff grown 2km away from this location:

@Sofia’s meatballs and mashed potatoes with spicy garlicky baby spinach. The meatballs had my moroccan spice mix, and love, which made them delicious.

It was amazing, and I’m typing this with a happy belly as I finish the second portion.

The red wine is a Castelares Reserva, which is currently my favourite red wine, bought for special occasions

I didn't get any pics of our Christmas day feed but My Sister dis us proud. We we're expecting a cold buffet and we'd brought cheese ( French , smelly) and wine ( White, St Bris, sauvignon and Red, St Bris, Cesar) but she surprised us with a massive tradional Christmas dinner. Ham in place of turkey but otherwise the full monty, sprouts, stuffing balls, bread sauce, pigs in blankets etc etc etc.  I hadn't had a "Proper"  Christmas dinner in 20 years so Best Christmas Present Ever!

This was our new years trough, just the 4 of us ( No1 being still in Liverpool)

we'd visited Bicester Village luxury designer outlet hell-hole on the 28th cos the twins wanted Vivienne Westwood Jewlery, which they got. On arriving home on the 29th we learned of Westwood's death. the twins wanted to do a Vivienne Westwood themed  table :

Then came the food. The "entrée" ( which I skipped and just had another drink) forgetting to take a pic till after the battle...IMG_2819.thumb.JPG.2cae0be646b9d0e90b25d8f0ae2f12c6.JPG

A dozen "Escargots de Bourgone aux beurre d'ail" ( Snails in garlic butter sauce).

Honey braised beef in a cider sauce with Gratin Dauphinoise, All washed down with a nice bottle of Chablis.  Yule log from the local patisserie to finish but I was too pissed and busy eating to take a pic 😇

I’m not a fan of snails the way they cook them here or in Morocco, which is to boil them in a heavily seasoned water using herbs for flavour. I was surprised that the french way is great, but still I would prefer all that delicious garlic butter to be on a toast.

I like them but agree tis the garlic butter that makes them. If it was a choice between garlic mushrooms or snails I’d probably have the snails because they’re not something I often see here but if I was cooking for myself the mushrooms would definitely win.

Grilled garlic bread like brazilians make, that's what you want for garlic and butter. Slice  most of the way through a thin french style baguette, put the garlic butter in through the slices and then grill it on coal. It's the perfect way to use garlic + butter + bread.

That is ubiquitous over here, if you can’t be arsed to do it yourself every supermarket sells two or three types with the garlic butter already sliced and wedged for you. Some of them are really crap, some of them are pretty good.

Takeaway pizza in Espinho, pretty decent pizza too. Three pizzas and a garlic pizza bread for 30€, outrageous a few years ago but normal now.

You'd probably pay around £44 for that bill over here now.
